MC HAMMER HAS NEW ALBUM

Mchammer_smhTHE FACTS
MC Hammer has announced plans for a tenth album entitled “Dancejamthemusic.”

THE SPIN
I had no idea MC Hammer had ten albums. What exactly are their names? I thought to look that up, but then I remembered it was 2008, not 1991, so I’m not that interested. But, for all of you Hammer stans still clinging to hope, here’s the scoop on the album.

It will be released via his own label called Fullblast Playhouse and the album title references Dancejam.com, a Web site consisting of videos of people dancing, that MC Hammer co-founded late last year.

One track called I Got Gigs will be featured in an ESPN commercial. That’s actually a pretty good deal, so go you, parachute-pants man.

Speaking with Billboard, Hammer said: “My approach is, even before people know about it [the forthcoming single], to pound it into their subconscious with this commercial.”

He might not have known anything back when he was going broke, but he’s clearly picked up on game along the way. The album is due in September 26. No need to buy me a copy. I’ll just borrow yours.

SOLANGE HAS A.D.D.

Solange_timeinc_netTHE FACTS
Solange acknowledges that she’s been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder.

THE SPIN
Speaking with the British magazine, NME, Solange said: “I was diagnosed with ADD twice. I didn't believe the first doctor who told me and I had a whole theory that ADD was just something they invented to make you pay for medicine. But then the second doctor told me I had it. I was in denial. I don't understand exactly what it is. The symptoms seem to apply to everyone around me in the industry. Loss of memory, starting something and not finishing it.”

Well, that certainly explains a lot, but since Solange has been killing it on stage and in video lately, I can’t say it’s done her any harm. Her solo album, Sol-Angel and The Hadley Street Dreams drops next week.

NE-YO DEVELOPS CARTOON

Neyo_p1pointsTHE FACTS
Ne-Yo is in discussion with Cartoon Network over his series, What The Bear.

THE SPIN
Given that he reminds me of Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I’m surprised Ne-Yo is going the bear route for his venture into animation. Ne-Yo is currently in talks with Cartoon Network to air an original animated series he developed entitled What The Bear. The series which will feature original music produced by Ne-Yo, would center around a rude bear that has been in jail in another dimension.

Singersroom quotes the hit singer and songwriter speaking on the series, saying, “It’s a cartoon for adults, like Family Guy.”

And if you’re wondering if this is just some money-making venture Ne-Yo attached his name to it without actually putting in any work of his own, you’re wrong. Ne-Yo is involved in illustrating the series, and claims if it weren’t for music, that’s probably what he would be doing for a living.

He said: “I used to draw portraits and caricatures of people and get 10 or 20 dollars a time. It was handy because, that way, I never needed to ask my mom for money.”

JANET CONTRIBUTES TO THE DICTIONARY

Jjackson_timeinc_netTHE FACTS
Chambers Dictionary is adding the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” to future editions of its dictionary.

THE SPIN
If it weren’t official before, it is now: The legacy of the 2004 Superbowl will never go away. Ever.

Digital Spy reports that the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” will be added to new editions of Chambers English Dictionary.

The phrase stems from Janet Jackson’s half-time performance during the 2004 Superbowl in which Justin Timberlake ripped open her top, revealing her bare breast, promoting a huge backlash that has since damaged Jackson’s career.

The phrase is now so popular the Chambers English Dictionary felt compelled to add it. The likes of other dictionaries like Merriam-Webster are expected to follow suit.

Your Spin: Should Janet laugh this off and be proud of her contribution? Tell us here.
